DermalSense Survival Guides: Can’t Stand The Heat!

While summer is a time for bikinis, martinis and sunbathing in the glorious sun, the heat can often be overwhelming and for those who struggle to tan, sun burn becomes our mortal enemy. Aside from sunburn, our skin goes through a tough couple of months with dry patches and redness and it’s up to us to combat these common exposure issues and keep our skin looking and feeling fresh and healthy. So, if you can’t stand the heat and want to stop your skin from flaring up as a result of too little sunscreen and over-exposure, take a look at our tips, tricks and recommended Dermalogica products below so that you can protect your skin this summer.

Sunburn

The best way to stop the suffering is to avoid over-exposure at all costs; the best way to do so is to avoid sitting outside when the sun’s rays are at their strongest. If you need to go outside at peak times, remember to cover up and wear a hat and sunglasses to help minimise the risk of over-exposure.

The most obvious yet possibly most important tip we can give you is to remember to apply sunscreen! Too many people forget to apply and re-apply throughout the day and end up as red as a lobster and very sore so it’s always best to ensure that before you even think about going out in the sun, you pop on a bit of sunscreen. It’s also advised to wait 15 minutes before you head off into the great outdoors and to re-apply every 2 hours for maximum protection.

Also, you’ll ideally want a sunscreen that helps to shield the skin against harmful UV and UVB rays for optimal protection when you’re out in the sun!

For sunscreen, try Dermalogica’s Protection 50 Sport SPF-50 for water-resistant, long-lasting protection. Otherwise, if you have already suffered the effects of the sun, try Dermalogica’s After Sun Repair for a soothing and effective treatment following over-exposure.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is yet another sign that you may have spent too much time in the sun, luckily it’s a fairly easy symptom to treat. First things first, you need to get hydrated! Drinking plenty of water can help to tackle the signs of dry skin and keep your skin refreshed and hydrated throughout the day. You should try to drink at least 2 litres per day to help keep your body and skin happy and healthy.

As for products, to help remove dead skin cells, you should use an exfoliator followed by a heavy or light moisturiser, depending on the severity of the dryness. Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant and Dermalogica’s Intensive Moisture Balance should do the trick nicely!

Frizzy Hair

There’s nothing worse than stepping outside to find that your hair has gone frizzy and slightly greasy due to the heat, but there are ways to tackle this issue and it mostly comes down to your shower pals; your shampoo and conditioner. By investing in a good conditioner and shampoo that help to control and smooth the hair as well as maintain a beautiful shine, your hair will be left looking great all day every day!

Dermalogica’s Shine Therapy Shampoo and Silk Finish Conditioner make the perfect combination to tackle frizzy and damaged hair and restore your lovely locks.

This is just a short survival guide on how to tackle the perils of summer so you can continue to enjoy your time in the sun. Do you have any more tips that you’d like to share with our readers?
